Healthy Nutella-Style Chocolate Spread

healthy Nutella-style chocolate spread

I won’t lie… when I first made this Healthy Nutella-Style spread, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Hard-boiled eggs in a chocolate spread?! It sounds crazy, but trust me — you can’t taste the egg. What you do get is the creamiest, dreamiest, chocolatey mousse-like spread that feels like a total treat but is packed with wholesome ingredients.

This is my second time making it, and it definitely won’t be the last. My two little ones were very skeptical at first (understandably), but now they ask for it all the time. My husband won’t go near it… but he’s never liked Nutella anyway, so his vote doesn’t count

I love that I know exactly what’s in it — no palm oil, no artificial stuff, and it’s not overloaded with sugar. We spread it over pancakes, waffles, toast… or just eat it by the spoonful. It’s a win-win snack moment that feels like dessert but keeps things balanced.

Why You’ll Love this Healthy Nutella-Style Chocolate Spread

Tastes like dessert. Rich, creamy, chocolatey, and indulgent… but it’s secretly healthy and nourishing.

Only 7 real ingredients. No weird stuff, no palm oil, and definitely no unpronounceables.

Naturally sweetened. You get all the chocolatey goodness with way less sugar than store-bought spreads.

Kid-approved. Even my little skeptics gave it the thumbs up after one bite.

Super versatile. Use it as a spread, dip, mousse, or sneak it into lunchboxes for a fun surprise.

Quick & easy. All you need is a blender and 5 minutes. No fancy steps or equipment.

Ingredient Breakdown

Here’s what goes into this simple, wholesome chocolate spread — and why each one matters:

  • Hard-Boiled Eggs
The secret (and surprising!) base. They give the spread its creamy texture and a boost of protein — no one will guess they’re in there.
  • Honey or Maple Syrup
Natural sweetness without the sugar overload. Choose maple syrup for a plant-based version.
  • Cocoa Powder
Brings all the rich, chocolatey flavour! I use @droetkerbakingireland, but any unsweetened cocoa powder works.
  • Vanilla Extract (1.5 tsp)
Adds warmth and rounds out the chocolate flavor — don’t skip it!
  • Hazelnut Drizzle or Runny Nut Butter
Adds healthy fats and that classic “Nutella” feel. You can use almond butter, tahini, or peanut butter too — just make sure it’s smooth and runny.
  • Milk
Helps everything blend smoothly. Any milk will work — dairy or plant-based.
  • Sea Salt
Just a touch to balance the sweetness and make the chocolate flavour pop.

If you’re feeling skeptical, I totally get it—but I promise this Healthy Nutella-Style Chocolate Spread will surprise you in the best way. It’s rich, velvety, and indulgent-tasting, yet made with nourishing ingredients you can feel great about. So go ahead, give it a try! You might just find your new favourite guilt-free treat. Don’t forget to share your thoughts or tag me if you make it—I’d love to see your creations!
