If you’re settling in for the Toy Show, prepping a cosy family movie night, or hosting a Christmas party, this fudge cake is an absolute winner. And while we all love the classics—mince pies, trifle, plum pudding—sometimes you just want something a little different. Something quick, easy, and guaranteed to put a smile on everyone’s face.
And let’s be honest—my kids (like most kids!) don’t always love traditional mince pies. The second chocolate appears, everything else suddenly becomes invisible. This cake is dense, moist, and incredibly decadent—somewhere between a brownie and a celebration cake. It’s perfect sliced warm with a scoop of ice cream, or served cold with a steaming mug of hot chocolate while everyone gets snuggled in for the night.

Why This Christmas Chocolate Fudge Cake is Perfect for the Toy Show (or Any Festive Night In!)
- Quick: Minimal fuss, maximum flavour.
- Easy: Mix, bake, drizzle—done.
- Kid-Friendly: Little helpers love stirring, pouring, and decorating.
- Crowd-Pleasing: It’s chocolate. Fudge. Cake. Need we say more?
The texture is dense, moist, and incredibly decadent—like a cross between a brownie and a celebration cake—making it perfect for slicing warm with a scoop of ice cream or serving cold with a hot chocolate.

Christmas Chocolate Fudge Cake
Equipment
Ingredients
- For the cake:
- 200 g milk chocolate chopped
- 200 g butter cubed, I use salted
- 100 ml warm water
- 2 eggs
- 100 g soft brown sugar
- 100 g sour cream
- 200 g self raising flour
- 50 g cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- For the fudge frosting:
- 100 g milk chocolate chopped
- 200 ml condensed milk
- 100 g butter cubed
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
Instructions
- Preheat the oven 180ºc fan. Line a 9 inch baking tray with baking parchment paper.
- Melt the chocolate and butter together in the microwave or on low in a small pot. Stir well then add the water, stir again.
- Meanwhile, whisk the eggs and sugar until they turn pale yellow. Whisk in the chocolate mix and the sour cream. Sieve in the flour, cocoa powder and baking powder, stir to combine.
- Pour into the prepared tin. Bake for 40 minutes, approximately, until baked and a cocktail stick comes out clean. After 5 minutes, remove from the tin. Leave to cool completely.
- For the fudge frosting:
- Measure the chocolate, condensed milk and butter into a heatproof jug, microwave until melted, it took me 2 minutes. Or melt in a small pot on low. Stir well, then mix through the cocoa powder. Leave to cool at room temperature.
- Once the frosting has cooled and thickened, pour over the cake, it should be pourable but not too runny. Decorate as you wish.
