We love the lead-up to Halloween. In Ireland, the transition from summer to autumn can happen quickly, the evenings are cold and the rain returns. It’s the perfect excuse to get cosy indoors, and baking is one of our favourite ways to spend an autumn afternoon together.
There’s something so comforting about the smell of something baking in the oven while the weather does its thing outside. Sometimes I’ll throw on the witch’s hat, the kids will put on their Halloween outfits, and we’ll spend the afternoon baking, decorating and making a complete mess of the kitchen!
I have such happy childhood memories of Halloween, and I love being able to create those same little traditions and memories with my own kids.

These Spooky Halloween cupcakes are always a hit and make the perfect treat to enjoy while watching a spooky film.

These little chocolate-covered apple donuts are a great alternative to those big, messy toffee apples, and they look amazing. The best part? They’re no-bake, which means the kids can get involved from start to finish.

When time’s tight but you still want to make something seasonal, these No-Bake Halloween Crispy Cups are the perfect solution. Just six ingredients, a microwave (or a pan), and a few minutes of stirring and decorating.

Barmbrack always reminds me of Halloween at home and my childhood, with the smell of spiced fruit filling the kitchen. The excitement of seeing who would find the hidden ring made every slice feel like a little magical surprise waiting.
I love passing these traditions down to my kids and keeping the old family recipes alive for future generations. It’s so much fun watching them get excited about the same little things I adored when I was a child.
