There’s something special about sunshine, warm evenings, and burgers sizzling on the barbecue. Last weekend, I cleaned the BBQ and made these juicy homemade beef burgers. They’re incredibly easy to prepare and full of flavour every single time. You can cook them on the barbecue or in a pan indoors.
I usually make double or triple batches for freezing later. They freeze perfectly and make quick meals on busy days. We had family staying, which made the evening even more enjoyable. Everyone relaxed, chatted, and stayed at the table longer than usual. The kids played outside while we enjoyed the warm evening air.

I created a toppings station so everyone built their own burgers. It’s simple, fun, and always a big hit with kids and adults. I served them in my soft homemade bread rolls instead of shop buns. They really take the burgers to another level.
On the side, we had crispy wedges and fresh homemade slaw. The wedges were golden, crunchy, and perfect with the burgers. The slaw added a fresh, crisp balance to the meal. These burgers are perfect for BBQs, parties, or relaxed family dinners. They’re also ideal for a cosy Friday night fakeaway at home. Simple, delicious, and always loved by everyone who tries them.

Juicy Homemade Beef Burgers
Equipment
Ingredients
- Beef Burgers
- 500 g minced beef 10% fat
- 1 egg whisked
- 30 g breadcrumbs panko or homemade
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- To Serve
- 4 burger buns toasted
- 4 slices cheese of choice
- 2 tomatoes finely sliced
- 1 red onion finely sliced
- 1 baby gem lettuce leaves
- 8 Sliced pickles – optional
- Burger sauce
- 3 tbsp mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp dijon mustard
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the minced beef, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, salt, and black pepper. Let the mix rest in the fridge for 1 hour; this helps them bind together.
- Mix gently with your hands until well combined. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions – I weigh the mix on my scales and divide by 4 (or 8 for mini) and shape into patties slightly larger than your burger buns, I use a large or small cookie cutter to get the nice round shape.
- Mix all the burger sauce ingredients together.
- Frying pan method:
- Heat a drizzle of oil in a heavy-based frying pan over medium–high heat. Add the patties and cook for 10–12 minutes, turning once halfway through, until browned and cooked to your liking. In the final minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty and allow it to melt.
- BBQ method:
- Preheat your bbq, make sure it’s really hot, over 200ºc, add the beef patties and sear for 10 minutes, turn and repeat for a further 5-10 minutes, until cooked through.
- Assemble and serve: the cooked patties onto the toasted burger buns. Top each with sliced tomato, red onion, lettuce, and pickles (if using). Add a spoon of burger sauce. Finish with the top half of the bun and serve immediately.
- Storage: If the date was good on the meat – you can store it in the fridge for 3 days.
- Freeze: Wrap well and freeze for 3 months. Defrost in the fridge overnight.
